Upon The Cross

Upon that Old Rugged Cross He hung
In the hot sunshine,
Convicted of every crime and sin
Committed since Adam’s time.

God came down to Earth for this
God gave His Son to die,
God’s love was revealed Upon The Cross
And in the blood, pooling at its side.

Oh, to put your finger in the blood
And gaze upon the lamb,
And know that all the mighty power of God
Was visible, that day, in all the land.

And in that moment, when God cried
And when Our Lord did die,
The sunshine ceased, the Earth was shook
and Heaven’s gates did open wide.

Oh, to be present on that day,
To stand, to kneel, to cry and watch,
As all the mysteries of God’s Grace
Came to light upon His face.
